Aces was inspired by the life of show creator, writer, and producer, Valerie Mikles.
Valerie has a PhD in astrophysics. She has traveled to telescopes around the world and lived all over the United States. She does ballet and theater. She's an aspiring novelist and screenwriter. But the question inevitably that comes up at family gatherings is "when are you going to find a husband and settle down?"
After years of not ever looking (and not caring) about finding a husband, Valerie realized she was an aromantic asexual. Then came the next hard question: how does one measure success in her life when she has no intention of finding a husband or having children? And thus a show was born- not because she knew the answer, but because she asked the question.
